You can install the app on a tablet or phone. Check that you have permission to install new apps on the device. Installation may be restricted, for example, to the teacher in charge or IT support staff.
Device requirements
- Operating system: iOS 8.0 or later / Android 5.0 or later.
- If you do not know which operating system your device uses, try installing the app first. Ask technical support to check the operating system version only if installation fails. The app should work on reasonably modern devices.
- A microphone that the app can use. Most tablets and phones have one.
- An internet connection, such as Wi-Fi or mobile data.
- Without an internet connection, the app will start, but the online speech recognition will not ‘hear’ the child reading, so they will not be able to progress in the game.
- To download and install the app, you will also need either
- a Google account for an Android device, to download the app from Google Play, or
- an Apple account for an iOS device, to download the app from the App Store.
Installing on an Android device
(Tested on an Android phone; screens and the language of instructions may vary slightly between devices.)
- Make sure the device is connected to the internet.
- Sign in to your Google account in the browser, or be ready to sign in during installation if prompted.
- Go to https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.outloudapps.luppakorva
- Join the pilot by selecting ‘Become a tester’.
- Follow the ‘Download it on Google Play’ link to download the app from Google Play.
- Select ‘Install’ to download and install the app on your device. You are ready to go!
- When you open the app for the first time, allow it to record audio.
Installing on an iOS device
(Tested on an iPhone; screens and the language of instructions may vary slightly between devices.)
- Make sure the device is connected to the internet and you are signed in to your Apple account.
- Go to the installation page at https://testflight.apple.com/join/uRVum6UF
- Step 1: If TestFlight is not already on your device, follow the instructions on the page to install it first. It is the testing platform used to run the pilot version of Luppakorva.
- Once you have installed TestFlight, return to the installation page.
- Step 2: Select ‘Start testing’ to join the pilot and open the Luppakorva installation page.
- Select ‘Install’ to install Lue Luppakorvalle. You are ready to go!
- When you open the app for the first time, allow it to record audio.
Having trouble installing? Check that…
- You have permission to install apps on the device.
- The device is online and the internet connection works.
- The device has enough free storage. If not, free up space by removing something you no longer need.
- You have entered the link, app name, username, password and other details correctly.
If this does not solve the installation problem…
- First, ask the app’s support team and other pilot participants for help in the Lue Luppakorvalle community: https://www.facebook.com/groups/lueluppakorvalle/ – someone else may have exactly the same problem or know the solution.
- For non-urgent matters, you can also email the pilot coordinator at johanna.roihuvuo@outloud.fi – the coordinator aims to answer support requests within 24 hours. Replies may take longer during the autumn half-term break, 15–19 October 2018.
- For urgent help, call the coordinator on 044-5070781 or send a text message requesting an urgent call back.
