Matkalaukkuseula is a functional hearing screening tool for three-year-olds. It was developed to make it easier to identify mild hearing loss as early as the age of three. Hearing specialists at a university hospital developed the tool and tested it with almost a thousand children before it was introduced. Matkalaukkuseula has been used successfully in child health clinics across Finland for many years.
How does Matkalaukkuseula work?
The child packs items into a suitcase, following instructions whispered by a hand puppet. Screening is quick and simple to carry out during a routine child health clinic visit. The method is easy to learn, even if you have not used it before.
As well as the equipment, the kit includes written instructions, a link to a demonstration video and a form for recording the results. The items in the kit are durable and environmentally friendly.
